don't go there.

you just need one sentence from that page:

Ultimately Richard Kelly intended for this movie to have multiple interpretations, and he has never (and most likely will never) given a complete explanation as to the main plot.

films, like jokes, should never be explained. they should be watched until they make sense.
Julie
I thought the same thing the first time I saw it.

If it helps, here's my interpretation:

The Director's Cut explains it all pretty much via the book; "The Philosophy of Time Travel". It shows a certain chapter in the book, then highlights a certain line of text which pertains to the scene in the movie you are about to watch.
I put that other link because it pointed out a bunch of stuff I never noticed prior. I should have stated it had interesting points, but was not official, sorry about that.

Haha yeah, I am just a little bit prettier than Gorman, if I do say so myself smile.gif

It's just a hobby really, I love hearing the sound of my own voice (or reading my own writing in this case)

Cheers.

And in the same spirit could someone please tell me what Lost Highway was all about? It's many years later and I still don't know.

I know there is a site out there that explains "confusing" films...but can't remember what it was called. I used it to find out what Mulholland Drive was about. What I thought was a couple of hours of wierdness was actually when explained, a very sad film.

Bill Pullman kills his wife because he's a loon. He then goes even more loony and imagines he's someone else, but he can't sustain his delusions and he has to relive the whole story in his mind again, so he goes back to the start of the story.

At least, that's how I interpret it. There's not a lot to the plot - it's the atmosphere and imagery that makes the film worth watching, as least for me. I know others hate it.

I am the Architect. I created the Matrix. I've been waiting for you. You are the sucker that paid to see this. You have many questions, and although the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human and out of pocket. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not, but either way I cheapen a classic original. While your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant. I have a beard. I have a shed load of white gloss paint I have to use up. Concordantly, I have just spent 10 minutes making this film sound deeper than it actually is. When the next fight scene

In the event that you find certain sequences or ideas confusing please bear in mind that this is your fault, not ours. You will need to see the picture again and again until you understand everything.

Donnie Darko is about nothing - okay it's about the director trying (and failing) to be the next David Lynch....

ive watched it a couple of times and have been reassured by numerous serious fans that its not entirely supposed to make sense

there are two interpretations, neither of which has a specific conclusion

one idea is that he is genuinely experiencing the things that happen in the film and the other is that they are all figments of his imagination and that he's a fucked up kid who just ends up killing himself

of course thats going to spark a chorus of "yeh but what about the bit...?"

but apparently thats the whole point

bits dont make sense and dont tie up but thats what the director intended

its quite japanese in its style, in that it expects the audience to draw their own conclusions to an extent and to accept that it doenst all tie together in a nice hollywood fashion

Thanks, that makes things a lot clearer. I obviously hate it for the same reason other people love it. Although as it's been at least six years since I lasted watched it, it may be worth another look.

I was in tears at the end of Donnie Darko, yet came out of the cinema incredibly uplifted. It was amazing - I buzzed about that film for days after.
I don't get loads of things about the film, but I love it.

There isn't that much room for interpretation I thought. A lot of it is fairly cut and dry (not the idiot's cut, that's just awful).
