After such memorable quotes as "I'm not gonna abandon England for something like, I don't know...Mission Impossible 3", Simon Pegg has signed up for a role in the latest Mission Impossible film. News is that he is playing a goodie but that's really all we know so far but it looks like it's going to be good. Spaced-Out will keep you informed as soon as we know more.

Woohoo! biggrin.gif I'm excited and curious to see what this turns out to be like. I can't really imagine the Peggster uttering corny action-flick lines in a non-ironic way, but it'll be fun nonetheless!
Dorf
This has turned a film i had absolutley no interest in, into something i may view, but shall remain suspicious smile.gif

Did he really say that?! Oh, man. NAILED. laugh.gif

Still exciting, though. And still the deal-sealer for me. Ta, Jaybrams! (Now if only Keri Russell can manage to kick ass and not be upstaged by her pre-Raphaelite tresses. Though I think I saw a pic of her w/ straight hair, so that's a good sign...)

like when told a potential "listens to David Gray"
spacegurl
Should be interesting. I just keep imagining him as a snivelling baddie type after his stint on Dr Who.
Omniscia
Just as long as he doesn't get to be the nerdy tech guy. Or maybe that wouldn't be so bad.
Marty
Just as long as he's a good guy. Or a bad guy.

He might get to rip of Tom Cruises' face!!

Yipee!

I think Simon & Edgar could have a Cruise fixation.

I reckon they'll kill him off in no time. Perhaps something like this...

The film opens with Cruise having just received his orders by way of a large Betamax video recorder. He's informed the tape will self destruct, so ejects and tosses it casually over his shoulder.

Cut to Simon driving past in his convertible - top down, Burt Bacharach on the stereo. His happiness is somewhat halted by the sight of a video cassette flying through the air and landing on his lap.

BOOOOOM!!! - Cue the music, cue the titles, cue Pegg's body parts flying off in all directions.

Perhaps they can get Abrahams & Zucker to direct ?

Actor Pegg 'signs for Mission 3' - from the BBC's news web site.

Odd that they have a picture of Tom Cruise rather than a picture of Simon.

Same here. I'll go and watch it just for the Peggmeister.

Hi, I'm a complete newbie here but I wanted to add that I'd rather SP contributed a certain flavour to the script as opposed to getting killed off too quickly! Let's hope they're not messing with the MI:2 formula too much though...?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INT. ETHAN HUNT'S FLAT - DAY

ETHAN is reclining on a beanbag, rolling a reefer whilst watching The Caves of Androzani on DVD, with commentary by Matthew Waterhouse and Gerald Flood blaring in the background. We whip-pan to him sitting there but this time playing 'Devil May Cry 3' on the PS2. Suddenly the music of the soundtrack changes to what sounds like the theme to a 70s Czech porn film.

ETHAN (VOICEOVER):
Oh, hello, I'm Ethan Hunt. I'm a spy but not even my best mates know that. I put them off the scent by telling them that my job is features writer for Horror Film Monthly. I do feel bad deceiving my friends, 'cos they're all close to my heart, especially this man...

Cut to dutch of a STOCKY, STUBBLED SLOB asleep on the sofa, porn mags scattered around him.

ETHAN:
This is Nick, my best mate and self-proclaimed fat munter. At the moment, he's sleeping on the sofa in my flat, located in Highgate Village about halfway between The Flask and Cafe Rouge. He's a chef in a Tex-Mex restaurant in Muswell Hill and does the best impression of Joey Deacon rolling a fatty that I've ever seen. He's got an obsession with porn and video games, but I reckon that one day he'll come in pretty handy in a fight against international espionage.

Whip-pan to a shot of Scarlett Johansson falling over whilst trying on a top in a Kookai changing room.

ETHAN:
This is my flatmate and double-agent Quacky Feingold. She's a bit insane but I love her really, the bumbling old slapper...

etc. etc.
thirtyhelens
I'd green-light that sumbitch for "Quacky Feingold" alone. biggrin.gif

Welcome, BTW!

Yay.

I think its great thet Simon is grabbing opportunities like this with both hands.

I never understood why Ricky Gervais doesn't want to do the same now he's 'made it'. Apparently he's been offered roles in some big movies too. It may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for god's sake!

I'm with Simon - go for it!

Perhaps he can factor in Nick Frost to reprise his TA role somewhere in MI:3!!

That was brilliant! I had tears! It was hilarious... goddamn if only it were true. I could visualize it all quite clearly, would make for a much more entertaining MI3

Talking of quotes ... here's what he said in an old Q/A session with the beeb about the chance of being in MI:3

"Simon, you rawked in Shaun Of The Dead? Any plans to shoot off to America, sell-out and do a big action film? Dave Starke

SP: Yes.
EW: We want to do an English action film.
SP: I would love to do something in America because the resources are obviously there and production is more prolific over there, but I don't think going over to America for the sake of it and being in anything is a good step. That's not really a move forward. It's more sort of going over and living the dream a little bit. But, yeah, sure!
EW: As long as you don't end up playing second fiddle to Chris Tucker or someone.
SP: If it meant a toss up between doing our next film and being in Rush Hour 4 or Tom Cruise's team in Mission: Impossible III... I would definitely do Mission: Impossible III [laughs]. "

Doves are a John Woo thing, so it's unlikely. Keep your eyes peeled for the number 47 though.
RIP Banners-on-the-Hill
In spite of my earlier, slightly silly, post - it would be difficult to try and predict what Simon Pegg's character will be like, apart from his being a "good guy"... probably a measure of his acting range.

Saying that, it WOULD be nice to see a Tim-type character sharing a flat with a complaining Tom Cruise (Cruise: "Why don't you switch off the game and come help me tidy up?" Tim: "Fuck you!"). Mind you, I'm still holding out for Cruise's character being saved from oblivion by a last-minute cameo from Tyres, piloting a helicopter. Oi oi!

I bet Pegg plays a villan.

this role Simon's got sounds cool! can't wait to see him in it but hope his role and Edgar's other projects won't slow down the progress of hot fuzz. What do other people think?

Hahahaha! biggrin.gif

That picture is classic! From the outfit and look, I think its pretty clear Pegg's replaced Ricky Gervais' role - excellent stuff.

On a side note: Simon is back from filming.

ohmy.gif Whaaa, where the hell?! Nice one, Ings. (And nice imprint there....that's not the old Batman font, is it? biggrin.gif )

Ingram,

Ye know too much
Ye know.........TOO MUCH!!

I'll leave ye with a riddle....

I'm hard, yet soft
I'm coloured, yet clear
I'm fruity and sweet
I'm Jelly

...WHAT AM I ?

A quick update.

I got in a surprisingly large amount of trouble for posting that picture so can people please not (if they saved it) forward it on any more so than it already has been.

Thanks.

Oh, and I have no personal connection to Simon Pegg... at all. I like Spaced and SotD, not the man (never met him, never will).

I thought the first one was great actually. I'm with you on the second one though, that was a bit dodgy to say the least.

I think my problem with the Mission: Impossible films is that they are more James Bond than Mission: Impossible, that and their being a "Look at Me!" vehicle for Tom Cruise.

I would partially agree with you there. I thought that the opening 30 minutes of the first film "felt" like Mission Impossible. After that it went downhill... The turning of Jim Phelps and then meeting the "voice" on the tape I thought was wrong.

The second movie was a typical John Woo movie and nothing more... Enjoyable brainless action movie, but didn't have the intelligence or intrigue to be Mission Impossible.
CazBag
Looks like the London Premiere's got itself a date of 19th April according to the City of Westminster site. A date for the diaries for those planning on going!

I'm not planning anything for that evening...it's probably subject to change though.

Yeah but what I really want to know is:

Did Simon do all his own stunts like Cruise always does?
