Just ordered a copy of Grant Lee-Phillips' new album ''Nineteeneighties", a collection of classic 80's indie anthems from the likes of The Smiths, Joy Division and The Cure done in an alt.country style.

Good choices. 'Freewheelin' is a bit rough around the edges but that is part of it's charm. Blood On The Tracks is an absolute masterpiece.
You're absolutely right there. One of the finest albums ever made.
In terms of Dylan, I'd also strongly recommend getting ahold of The Bootleg Series which contains rough cuts and unused material, much of which is enjoyable. Sometimes I actually prefer the bootleg to the final cut, such as Tangled Up In Blue, whose acoustic version mops the floor with the
Blood on the Tracks cut. Given that that version is wonderful, it gives you an idea of how good he can be when it's just him and his guitar.

I went to take Weller's Stanley Road back to HMV today in exchange for this one, I paid the two pounds extra for Wolfmother, but somehow ended up walking out with both of them.

While good, Lacuna Coil aren't my favourite band in that kind of genre though. They tend to be a little bit bland and mainstream compared to the likes of Tristania, who I much prefer.

I hadn't really decided. I've not listened to much of their stuff before, really.
It didn't really matter, though, because none of the CD-selling establishments around here carry any of their albums. If it's not a best-of compilation, a current Top 40 hit, or a rap album, it's not available, with very few exceptions.

I'll take your word for now, but I will endevour to look into Tristania. Bought Unleashed Memories off the back of hearing a couple of Coil tracks on Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. There are only a couple of the songs on the album really match up to the songs that were on the game though(does anyone know which album the songs from the game are from?).
I'm getting a taste for these gothic lady fronted bands. The melodic vocals are so relaxing by comparison to the usual roaring/screaming/shouting metal I've got.
My copy of Atari Teenage Riot's greatest hits is in the post now. Looking forward to finally hearing them after being told that they were a bit like the Mad Capsules on here ages ago. Cant remember who said it though so if it turns out to be crap expect some undirected bitching.

I'm not sure what the songs on bloodlines, but they're more likely to be off Comalies, at a guess.
Have you heard of Nightwish? Tristania are probably more similar to them than they are to Lacuna Coil, but Tristania tend to be heavier and less dominated by the female vocals. They've actually got 3 styles of vocals going on in most of their songs, male and female opera style, and also Black Metal Dani Filth style vocals, although not quite as shrieking as Dani's. It's not easy to describe, but I'd say Tristania were basically a cross between goth rock, opera, and a slight tendency towards black metal.

Well, they were. They booted out Tarja, and given she was such a fundamental part of the music, it'll be interesting to see how they go on without her. Not that I'm saying she was the only talent in the band, quite the opposite, I'd say she probably contributed the least, by the sounds of it, but she was a very strong front figure of the band.
I still prefer Tristania, since they're heavier, and a bit more balanced in that they aren't quite so overpowered by the female vocals. And being a fan of black metal helps appreciate the harsher vocals too.
