Well after watching tonight's episode, this show is officially one of the best things that has aired on network television recently. Excellent cast, the story is building up quite nicely, and each episode ends with you wanting more. So what do we think?

I loved the Rain Man homage in the Casino tonight. I am not a good topic creator now that I am typing this out. Maybe the next poster can get the ball rolling better than I am.
mousespider
I love this show too. It' real clever, and has great writing and acting.
The ending to this weeks episode had me going, "Woah, what this show could get even better."
thirtyhelens
Things REALLY clicked into gear this week. After three weeks of deliberate but too-turgid, IMO, origin setup we had some wonderful first meetings, some serious character development and a glimpse at where the show is headed that made me think twice about jumping ship anytime soon. It still needs a bit more snark and a bit less sanctity, but we'll see if they get there on their own time...

So, with Niki's power...is her doppleganger identity extremely strong and agile? Kind of like Callisto in the X-Verse? Hmm - decent power, but the split personality thing just makes her seem crazy. Hopefully as she comes to terms with her powers she'll pull her selves together and have done with the "Niki's not here right now" schtick.

Hiro is where it's at. Still. biggrin.gif
Punkass
Well a co-worker pointed out that the tattoo on Niki's back is the same logo that the evil black man has a necklace of.. I am going to re-watch it tonight to confirm. I agree about the ending, it was excellent. The preview for next week shows that we will finally get to see some action. Also that Peter's power is most likely going to be that of absorbing power as we see him "possessed" like the heroin junkie is when he paints his photos.

Oh, I can confirm that for you right now - yes, it is. That logo also turned up embedded in the binary code that Mohrinder found on his dad's computer, if you watched that scene carefully. There were a couple of other instances, too.

I totally agree. I just felt really sorry for him when he got punched in the face because of his friend. The best scenes, in my opinion, are the ones that Hiro's in. He's my favorite character on the show.
NiteFall
I just want to know if badass sword-wielding, non-glasses wearing, english-speaking future Hiro has his friend with him. And if he's still as much fun dressed all in black and being all serious.

Probably not, but that's OK. We'll probably get a whole lot more of present-day, crushingly naive yet fully dedicated to his destiny Hiro in our near future. biggrin.gif

ETA: Aha! This would explain the leap in writing in this week's episode:

QUOTE
This one was written by the great Bryan Fuller, who created "Dead Like Me" and "Wonderfalls," and masterminded the TV version of "The Amazing Screw-On Head."

Write more, Bryan. Please.
Sostie
Just watched the first 4 episodes. Fantastic. Ep1 was a bit slow but when it kicks in it kicks in. Final shot of Ep3 was a humdinger. Hiro is already my, well, hero.

A bit Lost-ish in the way the characters are "linked", but still makes great TV.
thirtyhelens
Eppy FIVE! Thoughts?

They do seem to be yoinking a disproportionate amount of powers from the X-Verse - i.e. Peter's got a Rogue-ish power, Niki's husband appears to be a tall, black, male Kitty Pryde - but it's I'm sure it's much harder to come up with original powers than you might think. It's how you make them play off one another that counts.

The Nathan/Hiro encounter had me on the floor, BTW. When are they going to build their Hall of Justice? Season Three? That's too long to wait... wink.gif
UnderSpaced
Definately a great episode. Epecially when Hiro was reading the menu. Waffles! Yay!
Punkass
Maybe it was just me, but it seemed to kinda drag last night. At least we are finally starting to see the powers at use.

Compared to last week's episode, I can see that. Still better than the first couple of post-pilot eps, though.

"Waff-uh-ruhs!" I wuv him.
mousespider
At the end of the episode I was so excited. I was thinking "Everything and everyone are starting to come together!"
NiteFall
Just rewatched ep 5 and noticed a neat little thing in that when Peter is possessed and painting he uses his left hand, like Isaac, while unpossessed he's right handed.

That and I can just watch Nathan taking off away from creepy glasses man and silent black guy and breaking the sound barrier over and over. Such a great moment in a show full of them
Punkass
Last nights episode was "things you already figured out, but we finally showed you". Never thought I would say it, but it was a bit too much Ali last night. Hopefully the pace is going to start picking up soon.
NiteFall
I'm wondering if Peter pointing out to Isaac that his pictures form a comic strip are what make him produce the Super-Hiro comic that Hiro brought back from the future.

Did love Hiro's reaction to being told about his future self with "I have a sword?" and the lightsaber impression, he's still totally brilliant. happy.gif
NiteFall
Heehee. Claire the invincible cheerleader and her geeky friend both have myspazz pages.

Here's the geeky friends.

And here's Claire's.

So, thoughts on this week? Announcer-man is still annoying as hell, Hiro and Ando are still the best, DL and Micah are far more interesting than Niki/ikiN, and I KNEW Mrs. Officer Matt was good for nothing. Biiiiitch. Oh, and how did I miss that Simone's dad is SHAFT!? Well...was Shaft, anyway.

mcraigclark
I'm sick of the announcer guy.

Mrs Officer Matt was pissing me off when she kept pushing Matt to talk about what was on his mind even though she was thinking that he knew about the cheating. She's more than happy to be on the recieving end of his attentions when he knows exactly what she wants, but she's got no intention of coming forward and taking any responsibility for the state of the relationship. Bitch. I'm anxious to see what happens now that Matt knows his partner is the one who's sleeping with his wife. Asshole.

Also curious about Micah's abilities.

And curious we'll remain, because he was nowhere to be seen this episode. Evil Pixie is still annoying, if not as annoying as announcer guy. Though from the looks of it, we were right - maybe Bad Glasses Dad is NOT as evil as he seemed, though clearly if he's willing to pump Isaac full of sweet Lady H to get his way, he's not pure as the driven snow either. But it did seem like from tonight, he merely wants to protect his daughter. Hmm.

The Sylar storyline took center stage this week, and Mr. Radioactive Red Herring was just OK; despite the groovy boiling water trick and the astonishingly sexy Mr. Grunberg. Hiro and Ando's end of it really got to me this week; WHERE are they going with that? Not to mention I flew off my chair and screamed "NOOOOO!" when Hiro-Girlfriend-Material had her cranium lopped off. Didja catch how serious he got after that? First glimpse of Future-Hiro? Hee hee.

Is next week the last episode before the holidays? Seems like they are setting us up for the first big cliffhanger...
Punkass
I did not actually mind this episode at all (lack of Ali did help). I don't find Announcer Guy (is that his Hero name?) all that annoying, but pixie girl does suck. My boss and I were discussing even how serious Hiro looked in the party photo at the end of the episode. Thought it would have been nice for astonishingly sexy Mr. Grunberg to leave his wife, but that would not be very "good guy" of him. I think the action is finally going to start picking up next week judging from next weeks preview. They are finally going to start meeting each other.
widowspider
This was the first episode I'd managed to actually watch and I really enjoyed it. I hope it comes out on DVD at some point so I can rent it and watch the whole series properly.

Oh, it will. It's NBC's runaway hit this season; unless something goes horrendously wrong, I'd imagine it'll be around for 3-4 years at minimum.

Sorry for the double post, but - what, what, WHAT?! (casting spoilers from TV Guide):

Question: Your superpower is super scoop. Save the world and give us some Heroes poop.- Sarah
Ausiello: Fanboys, prepare to piddle yourself. Christopher Eccleston - the original Dr. Who from the current Sci Fi/BBC series - is joining the cast in January in a really super (tee-hee) role. Speaking of cool casting, wait until you see who's ******* ****'s ****. You're going to flip.

Innnnteresting...

OMG! Best. Heroes. EVER!

OMG! Mohinder has the list!

OMG! Peter! Um...OW!

OMG! Where the hell was Matt tonight?!*

OMG! Sylar is Adam the Woman Hater!

OMG! WHY AM I SHOUTING?!

(*Yeah, of course, he was with me. Rhetorical question wink.gif )
widowspider
I wish I had a regular schedule sometimes so I could have watched this from the beginning. However, I know pretty much what's going on and I'm really enjoying it - plus I agree that Hiro is the best character.

Typical, you mean. They're all creaming themselves so much of the shitpile that is Lost, that anything remotely good is falling by the wayside.
gulfcoast_highwayman
I've just done episode three and I'm downloading four as I type.

It's fabulously good telly.

I find myself swearing at my screen when 'to be continued......' comes up. If I had it on DVD it would be marathon time but due to download speed it's one ep a day.

Your fucking kidding me?
Lost is lame, it's turned into one of the most dragged out yawnworthy stories ever.

Either way It had better get a European DVD release.....
zeden
I've been thinking about acquiring it myself. Listening to the guys from Nowhere in Mulberry (a fairly entertaining podcast) chatting about it certainly piqued my interest.
NiteFall
It's brill. Watch it.

D'you get the episodes from Juarez?
Sostie
Looks like Heroes will be aired on Sci-Fi Channel in the UK from "early 2007".
NiteFall
And given the Sci-Fi channels penchant for bizarre scheduling it'll probably be pushed into a 3am time slot after some dodgy sci-fi porno movie so they can show endless bloody repeats of Angel at all other times.
gulfcoast_highwayman
I can't believe Sci-Fi Channel has got this TV gold before any of the bigger boys.

Sky One must have pissed all their money up the wall with buying Lost.

E4 should be in like a shot.

As long as they don't advertise it in the same way they do 'Ghostwhispererererer'.

Not that I'm stikcing up for Jennifer's awful show mind. but the Not Patrick Allen adverts get right on my last nerve.
monkeyman
Not to mention the adverts are totally irrelevant thay go: "blah blah blah and get to look at her lovely lady lumps".....it's totally wank.

Yes, that well-known sci-fi show, Angel.

And let's not forget, that crap-fest Lexx.

EDIT: Some interesting trivia I just pulled up on him - he has an IQ of over 180. He's, like, clever.

EDIT2: Aaaand, he did visual effects for a ton of films!

He is an adorable geeky boy. Although he's actually 32 so he's not really much of a boy anymore.

Episode four done, ep 5 waiting to be watched and it's getting better!

Twists you don't see coming but make YOU go 'WOAH!'.

Fucks sake, i reeeeealy need this now. Cool little asian guys make me smile and the pictures and clips of seen with Hiro in them make me smile so much. Not to mention nearly everything I've heard about the series has been incredibly positive.
