i.e. ones that are linked up for legal free-download on the artist's sites, obviously. - or just something that's not copyrighted.

any genre will do, I'm just up for hearing some new music.

You can get the rather fun christmas song "Reindeer" by the Knife - who incidentally released the best album of 2006 hands down, Silent Shout - right here. Then buy the album...

Kick in the Head
Scanners - Lowlife, taken from their debut Violence is Golden. Not really listened to the album, but I do like this track very much indeed.

This Aussie band, called "Sick Puppies", have got a kick-start from filming their own video clip & posting it on YouTube. cool.gif Below is the story behind the clip, plus, check out the other clips linked to this one to get the story on the band....

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city of Sydney, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe-inspiring.

In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person... smile.gif

PS. The response to this video has been nothing short of overwhelming and touching. Hugs to every single one of you who messaged. There have been thousands of emails from all over the world by people seeking to participate in the Free Hugs campaign and asking for permission. You do not need permission. This is the people's movement, this is YOUR movement. With nothing but your bare hands you can make THE difference.

Imagine all the people.

@Kick In The Head: nice song. you don't hear violins in indie much. they remind me a bit of Salad, from back a bit.

that worked. listened to some of it... quite electro-trancy-disco-ish(?). not really my bag, but I'm sure people less geeky than me who actually go out clubbing (or even just go out) might get it, lol.

Richard Cheese's cover of Nirvanas Rape Me.

It makes me smile everytime, hes taken a fairly meaningful and depressing sounding song and lounged it up. I love Richard Cheese.
It also has the greatest intro and outro ever.

The video accompanying it has no bearing on the actual song though (Richard Cheese's I mean).

Ah, it's nice to find others who appreciate the awesomeness happy.gif

yeah, thats a bit twisted, lol.

btw, anyone who likes Sonic Youth/MBV/shoegazing style indie should definitely check out the band Swirlies. I looked at their official band-page and they've put ALL their albums up for free download!

http://www.evil-office.net/swirlies/discography/index.html

I recommend the album "They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days In The Glittering World Of The Salons", which is a shit name for an album, but it's really good. I had it when it came out, and at one point it was my favourite album ever.

Under Byen, from Denmark. They have a kind of Bjork meets Sigur Ros (which can never be a bad thing) sound, and you can download several mp3's here: http://www.underbyen.dk/download.htm

In fact, if you havent already been aquainted with the genii (geniuses?) that are Sigur Ros (and if so you are SERIOUSLY missing out), there are several mp3s here: http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/media/

ANd if you get the chance, see them live, it is an incredible experience.

10 AM Automatic by The Black Keys - great dirty modern blues

baking
okay thanks for these Ill check them out later. not heard much sigur ros stuff.
baking
okay that Under Byen stuff is good, but maybe a bit too blatantly like bjork, except with trip-hoppy-er type beats....good though.

sigur ros: I checked out the tracks "staralfur" and "leit af lifi", really like it. -better and different to how I thougt it would sound, for some reason I imagined they were Radiohead clones, not sure why...black keys Im more familiar with, like their sound a lot too (deep analysis I know huh.gif ). cheers for the mp3 finds.

@frostitute: butch walker, never heard of him (until now)...is he you?lol

Continuing the Scandinavian theme, 120 Days from norway are destined for big things - dont be put off by the fact that the singer sounds a bit like Bono...

Minty Fresh Records

There you will find a selection of free MP3s (at 192Kbps no less) by various artists, most notably (for a limited time only) a complete 5-track EP by the French outfit Prototypes. Indie-electro-pop-rock, with a 60s influence and a smattering of crunchy punk to boot. Sung in French! I'm listening to it now, and I'm quite enjoying it - well worth checking out, so get it while it's still free, people! Click on the 'Stimuli' menu option to find free MP3s.

Damn I love the internet.

I came across these entirely by accident and felt I had to share:
Alex H's Mash-ups.
Nirvananeeneenoonoo is my favourite.

Great band, but I was very disappointed at the live show. What a let-down! There were very few visuals, the band don't really do much on stage, and there was so much linen in the audience I my face was chafed clean off.

That's a shame, Adam. I saw them last year and they put on a really good show. It was very visual (lots of screens and lights), but I agree about the band not doing much on stage. I don't really expect Sigur Ros to jump around much though. Perhaps the venue affected my judgment- it was at this really beautiful old theatre in Louisville.

lots of really good and regularly updated mp3's here: http://www.spinner.com/category/mp3/
