Jennifer Beals is mixed-race. That young lady might as well have a tartan barcode on her bum for her DNA stamp is certainly Scots-Irish (ha! I was right). I see no resemblance between the two but as Tim Roth's daughter, it works.

I've never seen it but from those pics I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.

Weirdly, I wasn't being sarcastic there. I was in a rush when I posted those photos so they're not ideal for illustrating my point but when they're on screen together, their facial expressions etc make them seem really similar. Also, I had no idea that Jennifer Beals was mixed race until it was mentioned in the show and both Sarah and I looked at each other with confused faces.

Apparently he was wearing a Penny Arcade "Fruit Fucker" t-shirt as well ( I haven't seen it yet). I'm waiting till series 3 is all out and then I'll watch it over a couple of days at work.

There have been a couple of geek t-shirt moments on TV this weekend. The first one was the comedian on Ian Hislop's team on HIGNFY, who was wearing a Devil's Tower shirt, and the second was Chris Packham, on Autumn Watch, wearing a Tyrell Corporation one (both available from Last Exit to Nowhere).

Aye - her dad is black American but she often plays Hispanic people when her hair is straightened. Her 'passing' for white was subject of Devil in a Blue Dress - a great neo-noir movie. But when she was in My Bodyguard aged 16 or so, she had cornrows and everything. I don't think she looks very like her 'daughter' but they do have similarities in gestures etc. You never know though - depends on the person. Hence Thandie Newton's kids are the cutest things in the world with their blonde afro hair. And Giggsy and the late Jade Goody both have mixed race dads.

Series 3 of The Thick of It was great stuff but it has been funnier.

Damn, I don't think I've even seen the second series - not that I can remember, anyway. I thought this new series that's starting this week was the second series. I'm forgetting an awful lot of stuff lately.

I think there were two specials, which seem to have been counted as a second series. I could be wrong though.

The ''Series 1'' DVD has six episodes on which actually comprise both series 1 and series 2, since the first 3 were screened as one series and the remaining 3 were filmed and shown as a second series, which is why they move up to different offices and the style of direction gets a bit smoother in those episodes. The specials are a completely separate entity that don't count towards the series count.

No you are right to be confused. Everyone still is about set up. Series 1 is episodes 1-3 - then 6 months later they make 3 more episodes (S.2). Then 2 specials. It's all very piecemeal. I dunno why Beeb doesn't make the 6 episodes officially series one because they call it that on the DVD (and extra level of twaddle).

Edit - Maian beats me by 2 mins!
Ade

Apparently Series 3 will have 8 episodes, which does make a nice compensation for the long wait and lack of episodes prior to this. In The Loop is a nice little addition, too.

Also, I caught up with episode 1 of Series 3 and I loved it. They leapt right back in to things and kept the pace very high throughout. A strong opening that hopefully augurs great things.

Sadly, Last Exit tees have gone from being underground and cool to being worn by every geek in geekdom, and hence double-plus uncool. Not helped by my idiot colleague wearing one all the time.

Poor old Miss Frank. I think the public have finally gone crazy crackers over X Factor and are voting for people they like rather than those who can sing. Danyl in the bottom two? Mental. He's got the best voice (even though he seems very creepy). I'm not sure what would have been discussed at the "emergency X Factor" meeting last night, but as Olly and Stacy are still in I'm quite happy.

Looking forward to Life tonight as well. It's one the best things on telly at the moment.

QUOTE (Llama @ Oct 26 2009, 09:37 AM) *
The way I figured it was that everyone thought that Danyl would have enough votes anyway, so they voted for their second favourite instead and then no one ended up voting for him. Either that or the public are just idiots.

As John and Edward are still in the competition, I'm going to go with the latter.

Seriously, I know people are keeping them in for the crack but pretty soon that means the good singers are going to start going instead of them.

Defying Gravity was fairly weak last night. I was really surprised at the lack of anything scientific going on. It could have been a budgetary concern after the first two episodes, but the endless flashbacks and ship-bound character interplay felt like a money-saving exercise and was pretty dull. For the crew of Man's greatest feat of space exploration, they are quite unprofessional. And essentially the drama could be set anywhere. This fabulous opportunity to question humanity's place in the universe is overshadowed by who is shagging who; but perhaps that's all we're destined for, and the show has it uncannily right. The only thing keeping me interested is the mysterious 'Beta', and the other occasional weird happenings.
Ade
After all the poor reviews I've read, I can safely say that The Shield's Paula GarcÚs would probably be my only reason to tune in to watch Defying Gravity. Grrr.

Got to agree, i found last night's episode quite dull. There wasn't even a naked Zoe floating out the airlock to brighten it up!!!!!

Might stick it out for another couple of episodes to see if gets any better

I realised after listening to Front Row the other night that the principal problem with True Blood is that it's a bit like Being Human but not as good.

I wouldn't be so hard on it but I am kind of losing interest.

Hung is also starting to disappoint. Pity as it had the best pilot I've seen since Six Feet Under.

Thank god for Generation Kill, which although still early on, I'm probably enjoying more than I ever did any 4 episodes of The Wire.

The closing gag on last night's 'Modern Family' was one of the funniest things I've heard in ages.

And 'Eastbound And Down' also continues to deliver. Why can't Will Ferrell's films be this good any more?

Pretty weak episode of Curb on Thursday on More 4 - after two great episodes, a lot of this one was just setting up the main thread of the series proper. Still, the seeds of future despair (and funniness) are already sown.

Has to be the most high brow/pretentious quiz ever. The super sexy Victoria Coren presides over two teams - this week some young socially awkward Mathematicians and some grumpy old Wordsmiths - who are given clues to a common link. Difficult because clues are at times mind boggling ie 4 different equations all of which equalled pi, pretentious because instead of the standard choices of A.B C, D etc, they're using the Greek alphabet instead. Felt happy just getting 3 answers correct, though I did do well in the quickfire round.

She appeared in one of my dreams last night! All I can remember is that I was sitting down, and she came into the room, sat on my lap, put her arms around my shoulders and asked me to sing for her, but I was too shy to do so.

A decent shrink would have a field day with that, I'm sure.
Zoe
I LOVE 'True Blood'. The two things that were bugging me (Tara being in love with Jason and Sam being so irritatingly wet) were more than satisfactorily addressed this week, proving I should always have faith in Alan Ball.

Vinnie (Jason) with a monster erection was fabulous, more than an appropriate punishment. This was the funniest episode so far, thanks to the inept Bon Temps police force (bitch > gunshot), the crap goth vampires at fangtasia ("puns used to be the highest form of humour) and the aforementioned wood.

It's remains charming, sexy, entertaining as hell and, unlike most American shows, I know I've got at least two series to come before it gets cancelled. Happy days.
Raven
I've only seen ten minutes or so of one episode, but I found the southern accents really irritating!
Zoe
I hear the accents are crap (most of the cast aren't American), but I honestly can't tell. It's a silly accent anyway.

Having never seen any of it before this week, I'm addicted to Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I've watched all of Series 4 and some of Series 5 in about 2 days. Hilarious.

Also, Armstrong and Miller has upped it's game this series. Top notch fun.

And I've still got all of True Blood to watch as well, so I'm excited about that, plus all of Generation Kill.

I love my BT Vision box.

EDIT - Danyl has just given an extremely odd performance on X Factor. His eyes look a bit dead. He can belt out a tune, but he might have just let all the negative publicity get to him (although having seen some of it, I'm not surprised).

Danyl needs to cheer up, it was rock night not emo night.

Olly was the only one I really liked. Lucy and Sweet Child was silly, it was a hard task for her to top last weeks performance.

He just completely gave up. On the one hand it was kind of sad, but on the other hand I completely agree with Atara. Besides, if he lets himself be affected by negative comments to the point of completely losing the will to perform then he's not really cut out to be a pop star. I kind of liked him, but after his performance last night I don't any more.
