I forget you can turn the time constraints off....I think it's because it's been so long since I've played a Civ game, I've played more settlers. Thats a good game series as well, Age of Mythology was a cool game.

EDIT: The fuck am I on about, I mean Age of Empires, not settlers.
Atara
Age if Empires is awesome.

Chris will be happy. Killzone 2 arrived today OMGZZ a day early tongue.gif
dandan
have any of you american peeps seen a second-hand copy of tiger woods 08 going cheap?

I don't know what to think. On the one hand, it has OutRun 2 and Gunstar Heroes. On the other hand, Super Mario Kart?!
monkeyman
Final fantasy 12 shouldn't be so high, ICO shouldn't be so low. Shadow of the Collossus is missing as are many other games. Listsux.
logger
OK, I'll bite, no Half Life?
zeden
^Orange Box?

FFXII at 8!?
Tekken 2 over 3?
Oblivion over Morrowind?
Money making, but headbangingly frustratingly bad Tomb Raider 1?
No Deus Ex!
Bollocks to that list. Bollocks I say.
GundamGuy_UK
Halo and fucking GoldenEye are there, though...

At least The Orange Box is representing.
Rua
Final Fantasy 12 can fuck the fuck off. What a waste of time.
Atara
List has many fails on it.

MGS4 should def be on there, too.

It's not a list of the 50 greatest films though...

Bang.

(I'm just jealous because it's not on 360...)
Atara
It will be, though. Won't it?

Hehe Watchmen costumes on Home
GundamGuy_UK
They've still not confirmed, but everyone seems to think it will be.
zeden
Yet. I fully expect whatever psudo-improved version they bring out eventually to make its way to the 360, it just wont look quite as good.
GundamGuy_UK
Or it'll be on multiple discs. Like the good old days of Riven and the X-Files game.
Atara
360 owners having to wait an eternity for MGS4 makes me almost forget the pain of having to wait another frickin' year+ for FF13 just because they won't release it on PS3 untill the 360 version is complete. The 360 version that isn't getting a Japanese release so no delays for them. Fuckers

I meant Half Life 1.
GundamGuy_UK
Based on Square-Enix's recent record, I don't think we're missing out on much.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it to be good and I really like the designs. But I also liked the designs for X and XII, and they were arse.

@Logger, speaking of Half-Life, there's a mod coming "soon" which is the original game all prettified on the Source engine. Looks amazing.

I've seen the clips on youtube, it looks fantastic but I'm not holding my breath for it.

The original Grand Theft Auto at 3? Man that game got boring quickly.

I think it's more about the influence the game has had.

Which is why games like BioShock confuse me. As good as it is, BioShock is just a System Shock 2 clone at heart.

I guess lists like this are always contraversial. Usually because they're wrong!
GundamGuy_UK
I don't actually know what they're basing it on.

It's from a book, the Guinness Book of Records: Gamers Edition. Anyone own it or seen a copy?

That is ridiculous. I thought at first maybe it was a list of the best selling games, but surely the orginal GTA didn't sell that many copies? Unless they mean GTA3 of course.

I wish that someone would release an updated version of SS2, maybe through Steam or something, that actually works on XP/Vista. The more great things I hear about it the more I desperately want to play it!

I may have to build a 'Retro' PC to play some of these older games on early Windows/DOS. I couldn't get Discworld 2 to work the other day, which was a bit depressing.
monkeyman
I get to run arouns as Rorschach in Home which is good fun.

And Killzone 2 is fantastic. I won't go into detail because no-one here owns a PS3 (laugh.gif). It is pretty, the cover system is fantastic, the AI is the best I've seen in any FPS and the multiplayer is deep and rewarding.

That'll do pig.
logger
I considered getting Killzone 2 today but thought I'd wait to see what the Spaced consensus was. Think I'll wait til I can get it cheap too.
Drifter
I think that list is a load of old wank to be honest. We should create the 'Spacers Top 25 Games' one list for each of the main formats Each category should be:

PS2/3
Xbox/360
DS/Wii
PC

And maybe the final category should be an all formats top 25, keep it to releases from the last say 15 years?
Lazlo Woodbine
What about lists for the Megadrive, NES, Playstation etc? Or am I just showing my age?

You'd be hard pressed to beat Attic Attack or Elite.
Atara
Killzone 2 is 29.99 on Play. Which is damn good compared to high street prices.
Jubei
I'm playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. It's odd, because the first game I ever played - on my Dad's work PC - was PGA Tour Golf, something like 19 years ago. Obviously it's changed a lot, but if you switch to 3 click mode, it's basically the same game with prettier graphics, a higher frame rate and better sound effects </blatant nostalgic exxageration> It's very relaxing though, makes a nice change from chainsaw bayonets and kill counts. I've even done an EA Photo Game Face™ which worked scarily well. I'm not sure the golfers even had faces when I played it in 1990.

Did we ever decide on a Spaced Out's Game of the Year 2008?

Maybe we should make a poll from all the major releases.

For which system? It still runs about $30 new/$15 used on the 360 and PS3, but for the PC it's only $10 new.

Bought a load of Microsoft Points yesterday due to a nice 5% bonus I received on top of my redundancy pay and therefore I now have Portal: Still Alive, ez HD and The Lost and Damned nestling on my 360's hard drive.

Not sure which one to play first though.

We could do a Top 20 Classics chart for older generation game consoles/pc's.

Ooh, HHGTTG text adventure, that does take me back...

Do it.

Not that I can have much input, having only played on two games released in '08.

2008 was quite a big year for gaming. How about this then:

Everyone take a gander at this article, which lists all major releases of last year on all platforms.

Then, send me a PM with 10 or so that stood out for you, or indeed just 10 that you bought and thought might be a contender. Send more, send less. I just want to get a feel for what people liked. I don't want to just pick (however many poll options there are, 15? 20?) games from that list based on media attention and my own opinions.

So if you could PM me with your little list, I'll make a poll thread at the end of next weekend, if I get more than 5 of so people PMing me.

I'll bump this when we get to a new page, and of course we can discuss it here, in the hopes that I don't just get 2 people reading this and only 1 bothering to send me a message.
Atara
PM on the way, Maybe put comments on games when it comes to the poll thread though as I can't be arsed doing it now.

I know that but just think, over the last two years how many references to nukes have there been in videogames...

Nukes might just be "in" at the moment, a sort of Fear Factor brainwashing todays generation that "Nukes are bad, M'kayyy."

It's hardly a new thing though is it? The original Fallout was 1997, Wasteland was 1988, Nuclear War on the Amiga in 1989 and Supremacy in 1984. All of these games used a post nuclear apocalypse world as their setting and those are just the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. It's a framing device, simple as. A nuclear war means you have a nice blank slate onto which you can project whatever you want. Albeit entirely in shades of grey. It's far from a new idea and honestly isn't one that has seen any particular worrying rise in recent years. It's not a crypto-facist new world order plot to brainwash all the kids into believing the world is going to end thus destroying their resistance to the relentless opression of the corporate led states. And yes, nukes ARE bad. Why not spread that message about a bit?
