Some Final Fantasy Versus XIII info and screens

QUOTE
Versus XIII is an open world game, allowing players to go everywhere save for the mountains. Players can drive around in a car, which they can exit and explore the area on foot.

Sounds really damn awesome. I'm sure I remember the producer saying there was going to be an airship and a world map (like 7&9). Looking forward to this but I really doubt it's going to stay PS3 exclusive (though 13 sold relatively poorly on the 360 didn't it?)

I wish I could say I cared one way or the other, Final Fantasy is a dead franchise to me now after the unrelenting stream of stinkers Square-Enix has plopped out. Bioware, Bethesda and and the Shin Megami Tensai series for me from now on.

I just reinstalled Mass Effect 2 and an absolute mountain of DLC. Now to go recruit the master thief and play in a hovertank.

I be doing that myself. Well, the playing it as opposed to installing it that is.
The thief mission/character isn't quite worth the 560 MS points I paid for it, but it's a well made package at least and Kasumi herself has a very useful move indeed.
Really enjoyed the freebie hovertank missions, though they're staggeringly easy even on Insanity mode. Next up I'm doing the Overlord missions, fingers crossed they're decent and ramp up the tank stage difficulty a bit.

I got one. It's just that the only game I've played on it in the past six months is Joe Danger.

I still have a special place in my heart for FF's though. Apart from the main character and some quirks with the licence board system I actually really liked 12. 13 I didn't really like the look of how you progressed through each area (well I guess until it opens up?) and didn't really like how the summoning seemed to work. It looked gorgeous though and I quite liked a lot of battle system. The fact that Versus 13 is going to be much more open and play more like Crisis Core is good news. FF's aren't my favourite JRPG's but I still like them. I'm optimistic this one'll be good.

Is that good? I was sorely tempted to get it the other week as I've heard nothing but good things about it. Add me anyway man. PSN ID: Goseki1

First screens here
Apparently it's really hard to tell between the cutscene animation and in game animation.

If this is in game:

then I'm quite impressed. I'd really like to see how it looks in motion. In the DS version you have to draw shapes on the screen to cast spells or some such. The spells all come in a nice hardback book with every game. Seems like a perfect fit for Move to me...
NiteFall
I wonder how they convinced Miyazaki to change his anti-game stance.

Or I guess .

Here's some Video of it.

Cheers Rua. I dunno about anyone else but it looks pretty damn awesome to me. Even with low res video on my iPhone...

Rings my bell anyway.

It also gives me an excuse to buy into Move.....hopefully they show more of this at TGS.

It is. It's a bit like Trials HD only more cartoony, more forgiving, and less twitchy. One of the programmers on it is my mate's former housemate, so I'd been following the progress of the development for quite a while. Really glad they've got such good reviews after putting in all that work.

If anyone wants the free Red Dead Revolver theme I won for the 360 the code is - DCW4B-4TMMT-RG9FG-FGDYW-GWCYT
Not quite as nice as the potential 400 MS points I could have won really.

How'd you win?

I'm going to have to rent Singularity and Transformers at some point I thunk. Can't decide between buying 3D Dot Heroes and Modnation racers at the mo...

Edit:Nevermind, Game made up my mind there. They're trying to sell 3D Dot Heroes for 40 (can get it for 30 on Play.com), and also Modnation Racers for 45! Got Modnation from HMV for 40 instead.

That'd be how I play wink.gif Although I've started playing scrabble at work on a chess clock with a 25 minute timer each, makes the game very different!

I'm enjoying Dragon Age: Origins. I'm a City Elf and I couldn't decide whether to be nice or nasty at first, but after some human guy bitch slapped me the choice became clear. I ended him. laugh.gif

Been playing Crackdown 2 the past couple of nights, I'm not sure what to make of it yet.
monkeyman
Modnation racers really is bloody good. For a start, at the moment this is what my racer looks like:

And this is the kart I'm driving:

These were both fan made using the in game tools.

The racing is brilliant and has a fair bit of tactical depth to it. There aren't a huge amount of weapon/boost pickups but there are 3 levels for each one, so if you hold off using a weapon and collect 3 weapon pickups you wil have a much more powerful attack (or warp in regards to the boost pickup). For example; The first rocket pickup just gives you a single straight firing middle, the second level rocket gives you three homing missiles and the third level gives you a swarm of homing missiles. Of course you might get blown up before you can use the weapon so there's a decision you have to make whether to keep or use a pickup or risk losing it completely.
You build up a boost bar by drafting, drifting, getting air and things, it can be used for a speed boost (obviously) but you can also press circle for a shield to protect you from incoming attacks (though it drains the boost bar really quickly).

There's shortcuts and collectibles to find, an awesome track creator and racer/kart editing tools. Really looking forward to getting into this some more.

Those are pretty damned impressive for user made content.

It was a dashboard competition, download a gamer pic and a trailer and you get entered. I use my own pictures for the dashboard background so a theme is a tad useless to me alas.

I just played The Passing content for Left 4 Dead 2 and I'm heart broken, Bill's dead! And he was always my character of choice too. sad.gif

They are indeed, the game is awesome fun. Maybe get some three-way (hurr) split screen on the go when you're up (hurr)

And how does Bill die? Does that mean he won't be available in expansions etc? It's an interesting choice considering the style of game
zeden
I have no idea. It seems that the DLC for Left 4 Dead will explain how the characters come to meet and that characters fate. Nothing is even made of it in The Passing, his corpse is laid up near the generator you have to fill at the end of the level. And Zoe, Luis and Francis mention nothing to boot.
It really begs the question of what the other level will entail in LFD, given that one of the four playable character has to die by the end of that scenario the finale should be very interesting. I kind of hope they break with convention and add a cut scene of some sort, I'd hate for it to be something that's just glossed over by the other characters in the "we don't have time to think about this now" style.

Also, just on the subject of The Passing, there was a nice Dead Rising reference scrawled on one of the walls, it seems the maintenance man is still helping out a certain photographer during this zombie outbreak-

In the game I played, Francis says "We just lost one of our own and another is injured" or words to that effect.
zeden
Must have missed that, it's nice that it's at least acknowledged. I was wondering why Luis was sat down looking a bit ragged when I came face to face with the gang in part two of level as well so that's two aspects of the next LDC I'm curious about now.

Got me Red Dead Redemption at the weekend (yes I know I'm a bit behind!) Played a couple of missions so far and it looks pretty good! Is there still a Spaced Out Posse on live???
Llama
I don't think there ever has been, we should organise a time for us to all get on there.
Jubei
I haven't even played it online yet, still working through the single player. I've just got into mexico. Loving it. Although I get bored of the horse riding, especially when you have to just follow someone for miles.
monkeyman
Yeah that started to bother me too. I'd rather get there how I wanted or just fast travel rather than ride and listen to crap.
Outatime
As I've finished my OU course we've bought Red Dead Redemption, just waiting for it to arrive now.
sweetbutinsane
I think I'm starting to get the hang of Dragon Age... after seven hours of playing on it! laugh.gif
Outatime
I have picked some flowers, shot some birds and lassooed a horse so far in Red Dead Redemption. I also accidentally shot someone so I will no longer be responsible for the bits of the game where I have to aim at people.

Woo! Monkey Island 2: Special Edition!
UnderSpaced
Just picked up Bayonetta, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, and Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires for about $35 total. I haven't even got a chance to play my copies of 3D Dot Game Heroes or Red Dead Redemption yet.

So many games, so little time. I really need to finish Final Fantasy XIII...

Just gone and got Toy Story 3 for the Playstation as my birthday present from my in-laws. Toys R Us bizarrely had the cheapest price, I always forget to look there and it's only round the corner from us. Not going to start playing it until I've seen the film on Wednesday though.

I second that, though due to moneys I'll be waiting till it's on deal of the week. The commentry option has me very interested indeed.

I'm warming to Red Dead after sporadically playing it for the last two weeks. The landscape still feels a bit barren and devoid of variety though, the long rides during missions are a chore most of the time but at least the character dialogue is generally top notch. The "Who are you to judge?" stranger mission in particular caused a few muted laughs.

And finally I've started HD gaming. I started off with MGS4 after playing through the first 3 games. At first I thought there was something wrong with my tv, there were white specks popping up all over the screen. Then I realised it was sand blowing up against the "camera". I liked that, and HD is pretty.
Sir_Robin_the_brave
On the other scale of things, I'm going retro with the original Silent Hill. Just about adjusted to the appalling graphics now.

Completed 2 (bloody good) last week and 3 and 4 lined up to go through next.

Supernatural.
monkeyman
Silent Hill 2 remains the pinnacle of survival horror/creepy ass games. God I love, and fear, SH2 so much.

San Andreas runs on my netbook, it was at about 11FPS till I tweaked it to run at about 20FPS which is really quite playable. Tried Civ4 and that runs at 7FPS laugh.gif back to Civ3 for me.
NiteFall
I've hit a brick wall playing Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. I just cannot beat the Peace Walker mk II or the first Monster Hunter mission. sad.gif
monkeyman
Then we should Co-Ops so we can "Snake In" and mess them bitches up. What weapons and ranks are you using?
NiteFall
Mostly using the rank 2 AP M60, rank 3 LAW and rank 3 FIM-43. Oh, and rank 2 Anti-Tank Mines. And the thrown strike marker.
monkeyman
What healing items do you have? You have the Re-supply marker too yeah?
NiteFall
Yeah, re-supply marker, rank 5 rations, rank 4 curry, rank 2 soda and rank 1 tortilla chips.

I suspect it's more that I suck than anything else.
monkeyman
Heh, just keep moving should help. I've played a fair chunk of monster hunter so battling PSP controls and big bosses comes naturally to me now.
logger
Bit disappointed with the visuals for Mass Effect in HD. Grainy.
NiteFall
Have you gone into the options and turned off the grain effect? No joke, there is one.
logger
I didn't even think to do that. What a stupid thing to have in a game, is it to make it seem more cinematic?
NiteFall
I believe so. It might even be called "cinema effect" or "film effect" or something like that.
logger

Street Fighter X Tekken is unveiled. And by god am I excited about it. Now if they just throw a few Soul Calibur fighters in there I think I might have some kind of geek overload.
