This Steam sale is a bugger for being so utterly tempting. Picking up Left4Dead 2 when I get home for the silly price of 3.74, the sheer number of free mods for that game makes it worth it even owning the 360 version.

Edit: Speaking of Steam, my friend list is a bit barren. I'm MightyBeardEden if anyone wants to add me.
monkeyman
Add me! Goseki1. I don't get on often but might see you around when I'm on Portal 2 (which I will eventually co-op with you).

Edit: Ive added you biggrin.gif

Edit2: Apparently you don't exist sad.gif
zeden
Hmm, it might be that my screen name is MightyBeardEden but my login is zedenp I guess.
Everlong
I'm either steve.fiori or stevofiori on there. I'm new on Steam, so not much going on.

I also wanted a better screen name but they were taken. Agh.

Got all those pesky gnomes, flowers, books and keys on Fable 3, plus I opened all the chests on the road to rule. Now I don't know what to do... other than start again and play through as an evil character. laugh.gif

I'm trying to like Borderlands, I really am. The randomised weapons and the visuals are great; but I think loot games aren't for me, it feels so empty and barren and repetitive and like a complete grind.
I'm not far into it so I'm going to give it more time but yeah....it's not great so far
fatseff1234
I really enjoyed Borderlands, Mordecai and his Sniper Rifle of awesome is great.
zeden
I'll be adding you wonderful people to Steam in just a moment. And speaking of that wonderful service...DAMN THEM TO HELL! Too many sodding deals I don't want to pass up! Today it's Audiosurf for 89p and Company of Heroes for 1.74. sure it's not much, but I'm spendin a couple of quid per day at the moment on all these games. Safe to say I wont be buying any premium titles beyond Deus Ex this summer, my backlog is just silly now.

Edit:Secon thoughts on Company of Heroes. Turns out there's two expansions that bring it up to the best part of 7. Not fussed at that price.

And I've got to agree about Borderlands. Playing alone I was bored out of my mind by the irritating voice work and lack of things to do beyond just shooting. Playing with a couple of people with microphones ramped up the fun a lot.
GundamGuy_UK
Wii looks shiny with the component AV cable. I hated how blurry it was at times, especially on text and the Channel screen, with composite.

I wish Nintendo made it clearer about Virtual Console games needing to input a code for them to work properly though, I freaked out a little when they all went "Out of range" in every display mode...
Sir_Robin_the_brave
I need to remember to reinstall Steam now I have a shiny new PC to play with. I shall probably add people also.
monkeyman
Is it wrong that I kind of want this?
Though I'd probably just take a dump in the section for Resi 5...

Never gonna happen here.
SuperSaiyanStoner
I actualy think they should have locked out the ability to play borderlands with any less than 2 people bare minimum!! It sullies its awsome name, as on your own, its just a pretty loot generator. Fun for a while but no real lure to keep you playing. But played with good friends and its one of the greatest co-op experiences out there! (imo biggrin.gif)

My latest nostalgia trip can be summed up with this.

monkeyman
I love that game so much. I'm pretty poor at making a profit but it's so damn fun to play. May have to get hold of it now...
Silky
Yeah, I actually forgot that you could increase your loan at first and by the time I remembered I tried not too, after all, interest is a bitch.
When I was younger that never bothered me.

Also, a lot of you just got steam invites from blunderboy or some variation of that name.

I used to love Rollercoaster Tycoon till I figured out a few methods of earning easy money like ramping the entrance ticket price up everytime a new ride was built then dropping it the second someone complained, or bumping the price up on everything in the shops by a nominal amount. Oh, and raising the price of umrellas up to 7 everytime it rained, major earner that one.

I got my copies of Alpha Protocol and Deadly premonition on the post on Friday and have looked at both but only played Alpha Protocol.
Alpha Protocol - By god is that game unfinished and seriously broken in some respects. Enemies who don't react to being shot, get stuck in doorways, stand with their backs turned, beat pieces of scenery endlessly, can't pathfind around a bump in the road. By god are they dumb. And yet, I can see what Obsidian wanted it to be and can easily imagine that the concept would work if it were given the polish it needed, alas no. As it is I'm playing for the plot then I'm passing it on to my brother so he can find out how bad a lot of it is and get his opinion before a podcast recording.
Deadly Premonition- - Watched the intro cut scene and got so wrapped up in enjoying the whole Twin Peaks vibe of it all that I decided to hold off till Alpha Protocol was done and I can properly concentrate on picking apart the plot, seeing what's been lifted and reworked to go in the game. Immediately more interested in it that Alpha, but I've set myself a task and alas I shall have to finish that game first.

Also, Audiosurf for 89p the other day. Played it for hours on end already. Amazing.

I've never played any of the Tycoon series, but I really enjoyed Theme Park World. Is it about the same? It looks very similar.
zeden
Very much so. It's a tad more complex in some respects but it all adds up to make it a deeper experience. It's also just as much fun to make rides that end with a car crashing into water as it is in Theme Park. wink.gif (Please tell me I'm not alone in this evil little guilty pleasure?)
GundamGuy_UK
I used to like making those tower rides where the seats blast up into the air, then making the power way too high for the height of the thing so it'd just shoot up into the air and come crashing down.
I remember me and a friend trying to make a rollercoaster where the track ended next to one of those, and attempting to time the two rides so they'd collide mid-air.

I never really played any of those games (SimCity 2000, The Sims, etc) 'properly'

If you owned The Sims and didn't know rosebud;:;:;:;:;:;;;:;:;:;:;:;: you were missing out.

Does anyone? My favourite thing to do on SimCity 2000 was open one of the perfect, pre-loaded cities and unleash a wave of disasters on it.

I actually found the disc for that the other week. Might have to give it a whirl on my laptop.
GundamGuy_UK
I did used to make proper cities on SimCity 2000 occasionally, but it's really, really hard to get one off the ground properly.
The bizarre fact that time is faster at the start of the game doesn't help, as you get newspapers flashing on-screen almost constantly.

Then I shall give it a go! Rollercoaster Tycoon that is, not drowning people in Theme Park.

Also, I used to play those games properly because I am a nerd. At least I'm not that guy who spent like 7 years designing a completely perfect SimCity...
sweetbutinsane
Well, I do attempt to play them properly, but messing about is so much easier and often more amusing. laugh.gif

I thought that was really quite elegant. And he did write his dissertation or something like that using it, so it wasn't a "waste" of his time.
I guess as long as you're entertained by it, to each his own.
zeden
I'm in the play it properly camp too. Following that in Sim City 4 was nightmarish, Sim City 2000 and 3000 are a cake walk by comparrison. Memories of endlessly adjusting funding for individual police stations, fire stations etc abound. So sodding complex but managing to cut even the tiniest profit felt quite satisfying.
I showed that bastard hard game who was boss. Boss of making $126.74 dollars a month!

It was nicely done, for sure. Just seemed quite extreme to spend that long on it. I didn't know he used it for his dissertation though.
monkeyman
Heh, always played those games properly too. Well, up until
I was sucking then I'd unleash some therapeutic rage.

Picked up Valkyria Chronicles 2 again after not playing for months and I'd sort of forgotten two things:
1)Such a brilliant game series, I'm so sad there's no plans for an English version of VC3, but that's what happens when you (I) pirate I guess. Really really hoping for a new PS3 entry or at least PSVita, as the PS3 version is one of my favourite RPG's of all time. Top 3 fo' sho'

2) Fuck me the mission I stopped playing on is hard as nails. I will beat it without looking at a guide though!

That SimCity 3000 perfect city has a video on YouTube which the guy made. Took him three years to construct the final city, which is more than a little terrifying. My favourite part of the video is in the description, where it says this: "When asked about the fact that in his city, the average life of a citizen lasted only 50 years, he stated: "Health of the Sims was not a priority, relative to the main objective.""

Was playing a bit of Little Big Planet last night. After what seemed like an hour or two, my eyes were feeling a bit tired & i figured it was time for bed. I was assuming it was 1 or maybe 2am, but then I looked at my watch and it half five! It was light outside! ...Who stole those hours from me? Almost certainly a case of alien abduction going on there.

Just after I got a playstation 3 a few months back, I went into GAME to get a few titles that I'd missed out on and the salesman recommended Little Big Planet. Having never heard of it before that day I now play it more than any other game I own. My girlfriend has got really into it as well to the point where she doesnt think all video games are stupid and will happily give Fight Night Champion, or Resident Evil co-op a go too.
monkeyman
PSN ID's?

I love LBP2 though I wish I could get motivated tonsoend some time creating as i love that side of it. Great game series and the sequel really blows the first out of the water with what's available to do
Silky
Playing a new mod for Shogun 2 Total War, and I'm getting drawn back into that game.
It's adjusted a number of things, many of them behind the scenes but the unit scale is much better now. A unit of Yari Ashigari which had 180 men before now has 500.

I'm alternating between that, Mount & Blade Warband, and Bad Company 2.
GundamGuy_UK
Check out what I just bought:

I always wanted one of these as a kid. I loved my GameBoy Camera.
sweetbutinsane
I always wanted one of those too. Never got one though... sad.gif

Just bought another Professor Layton game today. Yay for puzzles!
GundamGuy_UK
I only paid 7 for it, with box and cable and paper and everything. They're really cheap on eBay.

That is cheap.

I'd have to buy a GameBoy first though. laugh.gif I did have a GameBoy Colour but sold it quite a few years back.
zeden
Didn't those things have their own special paper or something? For the sake of your pocket I hope so.

Civilization is like the crack cocaine of games. I blinked whilst playing it over the weekend and two hours passed, so damned addictive.

Also, Deadly Premonition is so frickin' great it defies belief. Never thought such a thing as a Twin Peaks style game could exist but I'm glad to be proven wrong.
monkeyman
Actual good rather than so bad/weird it's good?

I've been in the mood for trophy whiting recently and am going back to old games I think I can platinum easy enough. I Platinumed Uncharted 1 (I'd played like 4/5 times before it got the trophy patch and didn't really have the right mindset to do it at the time), which involved playing through it twice; really enjoyed it too, I mean I would have had to tonppay twice back to back.
Now I'm doing New Vegas, I had a save just before you get locked into any of the main endings so used that to finally see all the different outcomes, I just got kicked out of all casinos too. Now I need to play Caravan. Whoever designed this game needs to die -,-

Might see about finishing up Wolverine next, or Arkham Asylum; though with AA it's just the challenge rooms I need to do, some of them take a lot of skill and I'm out of practice though.
Atara
Arkham Asylum isn't here mind.
monkeyman

Guess I'll play Wolverine then. Or use my free rentals for Shadows of the Damned. Or Alice.
NiteFall
You're welcome to swing by and borrow my copy of Arkham Asylum if you want.
monkeyman
Thank you for the offer sir I might just do that. Though the more I think about it the less I want to just play the challenge rooms. I'd need to use a guide as I don't remember anything and that's just cheating XD

Yay, skills mods and stats. It was fucking retarded that the weapons had no stats listed in ME2. Glad to see that returning

Yep. I'm at my happiest when I can tinker with most party members.

Might have to install NWN2 when I get home, or maybe carry on with BG2.

Yeah, but you can still get enough rolls to print 400 pictures for 3 on eBay, though. And failing that it takes cash register paper, though you lose the sticker functionality in doing so.

As if I'm ever going to use it more than 400 times though, really =P
