I think a poll may be a bit of a tricky idea, so how about a thread where you list (and/or argue for) what you thought were the best singles of the last decade.

Girls Aloud - The Promise (might be a contender for the best pop track of the decade...near perfect)
Electric Six - Gay Bar (also one of the best videos)

Johnny Cash - Hurt
William Shatner - Common People

Agree with most of those choices, apart from The Promise which I still think is balls. There are so many GA tracks that are so much better - I'd probably go for Wake Me Up or The Show, much better. But especially:


Excellent track, I listen to it on average at least twice a week (possibly something wrong with the shuffle function on my ipod), and I've still not forgiven you for divulging that it was about dirty things, my mind was good and pure before I found out.
I also rate Negotiate with Love, a very good hardy powerful, angry girl type song.
And what the hell, I Said Never Again But Here We Are, as well. Even if it does steal shamefully from Adam And The Ants.
(Who'dve thought that Stevens would have been responsible for some of the best pop this decade? Don't tell any of my friends I thought that).

To add to that, I'd say Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out.
There wasn't much indie in the charts at the time. In fact it was mostly pop. Franz seemed to kick start an era of British indie bands in the charts. Take Me Out, had a great video (kind of reminiscent of the South Bank show intro animation). At the top of the record there's this great long intro that sounds like a different song, at a different speed that gradually decelerates to the speed of the verse/chorus. ...It always annoyed me that no radio station at the time (apart from Xfm) would play the intro. ...That's the best bit!
