As per Zoe's suggestion of spoilering downloads and FX, could people say before the spoiler what speed they're going at? I'm watching on FX but I don't want to see downloaded spoilers, ta

Yep - this is good advice.
Channel 4 has done Series 1. FX is up to series 2 (New World In My View - is episode 10 of 12) I think. Download is all Season 2. Season 3 airs in US on 13th of June so I assume this will eventually be the download speed.
Maybe spoiler anything for Season 2 - I intend to get the DVD and watch it all.

Yes, please spoiler anything not aired on terrestrial UK TV, which as Sefi says is up to the end of season one.

I'm surprised we haven't seen any Shafthouse. He isn't exactly coy.

I was going to check, but stopped just before typing 'Jason Stackhouse's cock' into Google at work.
Maybe I should start my own thread just for objectifying Vinnie from Home and Away and leave you all to talk about True Blood.

Hello True Blood thread
I've been watching Season 2 - IT IS LE TITS. So far, up to the 8th or 9th ep. So much funnier, as Ipse said in t'other thread.
I wouldn't have thought they could make Jason Stackhouse even more awesome but they totally did. The bit when he returns to Bon Temps (as Outatime says) and impersonates a God (in a manner echoing both Princess Bride and Back to the Future) had me laughing like a drain.
Suckie is still a wee tit and Paquin gets a bit shit more times than should be allowed (i still don't like her face - and what's with the head tilting thing she does?) but it matters less now. Same with Bee-yul. In fact, they made a good joke about it around episode 7 - the bit in the church, when the Reverant Slightly Conan-OBrian says something like "you're what the fuss is about?".
Still so much else is going on - who cares about their lurrrrrve. Laughing at them both is more fun. Better stuff elsewhere too - Jessica, Hoyt, his Maw, the glorious Mary Ann, Terry, Arlene, Andy, Sam (still smuggling bananas in those bloody daft jeans) Tara, her mate who looks like Thierry Henry and Lafayette. Superb. And Erik - the best sexually ambigious hot blonde vampire since William the Bloody. You'd all go gay for Northman.
In fact, it reminded me of all the good things I love about Buffy. It nails that atmosphere of fun and silly and drama.
Bring on Season 3.

lovely, lovely eric...
Best bits are funny/goof - like the Glee teacher tracksuit and the awful awful theatrical 'actking' - mainly telling Suckie he was
*coughTOTALLYdyingCOUGH* and approaching the mad Christians at the church doorway doing his impression of "a man" was all funny. Like making Jason some kind of messianic hero - genius character move. The Stackman has to become a cop now. Has to.
Evan Rachel Wood is silly. I hope she doesn't come back. The 'centuries old vampire who acts and speaks like a spoilt Beverly Hills brat' is done to death. After Whedon, it got very boring quickly. They should go back to having Shakespearean actors in ruffly costumes. Helen McCrory as a vampire Queen would be far preferable to Marilyn Manson's child bride in a 30s dress.

Very glad to see
that wasn't Lafayette in Andy's car, and I surprised myself with how much I grew to like Jessica. I wanted to stake her myself at the end of S1, but now she's a favorite character.

Anyway - I find the concept of stalking a vampire in TB to be rather refreshing (conceptually) because it is hugely disgusting as in Salem's Lot. Not just a neat pile of dust as in Buffy (which I never got to like really).
There is a lot of Salem's Lot in TB - which is why I like it. It's still one of my favourite vampire stories.

There is a lot of Buffy in True Blood, it's heavily influenced I'd say.
You can see Whedon's mix of humour and melodrama, and there's loads of plot similarities, not least the blonde female protagonist with superpowers (the chosen one) who's going out with a tortured vampire who doesn't eat people anymore.
It's Buffy with sex and swearing, which is why I like it. Late-night Buffy.

Fo' shure. Suckie and Beeyul are the worst parts of Buffy and Angel's romance. They even have a hot blonde villain vampire to mix things up a bit. The Queen ERW was defo trying to be very Glory in her ways.
Season 2 reminded me of all the things I love/miss about Buffy. It was nice to have all that back again. With dirty bits and no high schoolers.

New season 3 starts soon download fans - this Sunday. Do I hear an AMEN?
Some premiere pictures here - including serene Jessica (looking like a beautiful ginger Liv Tyler), slutty but happy looking Sook in a cheerleader dress made from IKEA bags, Bill and Eric in lawyer suits like they come from the set of
Shark, the latter's toothpick of a girlfriend** posing for cameras as she always bloody does and many other treats.

Marvellous stuff again, setting up many plot strands for the current season. Glad to see Jessica hasn't run off. The scenes of Eric in the buff and the Sam/Bill dream will have made lots of fans rather happy. I liked the slutty students, and Jason's inability to perform.

Jul 19 2010, 01:34 PM
Man vs Food upsets me for three reasons
1) It's horrible to watch someone eating (and spitting out) such an excessive amount of food in a world where so many are starving
2) It's gross
3) It confuses me how he can eat so much and only be a bit fat, I can't imagine him exercising
dandan
Jul 19 2010, 01:44 PM
1 - i have never seen him spit out food. although excess is never a good thing, i don't think the fact that people are starving has any bearing on anything. at least he is given the opportunity to eat the food and it is not simply stock-piled and left to go rotten to maintain a steady market value of what is actually released for sale, like what happens with some other food stuffs...
2 - there is some grossness involved, but there's also some quality yumminess thrown in for good measure...
3 - apparently he is practically a health freak / fitness fanatic in between shooting series of this and will exercise twice a day throughout filming, including hour long treadmill sessions...
Zoe
Jul 19 2010, 01:45 PM
Really? I absolutely cannot imagine him exercising, but I knew he must (hence my confusion by his only slightly podgy face)

yep, he's an exerciserhollic... he's a bit of a sushi expert too and have heard talk of him sticking to a mainly health-freakish, almost vegan diet during his off-season...
i think the mass poisoning of somalia, by inflicting deep fried sarnies via the medium of the post, would be labelled as one of the biggest crimes against humanity the world has ever seen...
