Spider Dijon
I like TNG, TOS and Voyager. Voyager you may say! It's pretty shitty but its one of those, I got into it some how and now I like it. Hell, I'm connected to it. I met Robert Picardo (who was nice...even if he was hitting on my mum) and theres one episode where theres this kid in it, (one off) He's a friend of mine! Haha, we were doing work experience together! What are the chances?

But as for movies, this is my order (top 3): Voyage Home, First Contact and Wrath of Khan. Although 5 was a bit shit, the wooden panelling in the ship had a strange calming effect on me...and at the end of the movie EVERYONE was friends...what was that about?
Omniscia
Robert Picardo is all right with me, but that's more to do with his work with Joe Dante than anything Trek-related.

Fool, no. You've got 2 seasons worth on DVD to catch up with first!

No excuse.

I earn less than £12,000 a year.

That's my excuse. laugh.gif

(But seriously, you might have a point there...)

QUOTE (Raven @ Mar 9 2007, 11:23 PM)
Solution? Reboot the show and start over with a new Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

They've taken the same approach with Batman and Superman etc, why should Trek be immune?
*

I agree - but I guess it's a little different in that Batman and Superman and Bond and so on existed outside the realm of cinema so whenever they were portrayed by an actor, it was someone filling in the shoes of a well-known character - regardless of the legacy they left. With Star Trek, Kirk has always been Shatner and Nimoy has always been Spock, so the association with these actors is probably stronger. But Hollywood have not been doing bad at big franchise casting of late, so fingers crossed...
thirtyhelens
Sylar = Spock?!

Wow.

QUOTE (thirtyhelens @ Jul 25 2007, 01:54 PM)

That would be...yes. Yes. Never thought about him before, but now I can't unthink him being Spock. I hope the same can be said for whoever gets to be Kirk - that's a toughie.
Raven
According to rumours being reported on the SFX web site, it won't be Matt Damon (as has been previously rumoured!).
Omniscia
Spock, the misogynistic computer nerd/telekinetic head-slicer?
Raven
Zachary Quinto it is.

Anton Yelchin is Chekov.

Nice. I like that kid.
Raven
Cruise to Make Cameo.

I hope this is media guff, but given Abrams has worked with Cruise, who knows . . .
Omniscia
It does a disservice to cameos to announce them ahead of time and play them up.

That said, the presence of Cruise could indicate that Kirk, Spock, and company could be headed for a fateful showdown with Xenu...

Now that would make a good film!
Raven
James McAvoy to play Scotty?

And Russell Crowe a villian. It could be true, but the same article also tips Robbie Williams to play Kirk . . .

This one's been rumbling about since the project was announced; Jimmy Mac's been quite coy about it but indicated he wouldn't turn down an offer, being a massive Trekkie. I don't think it's official yet tho.

Well, he's meant to be playing Captain Pike, which means we might see him bleepy and boxed. Now that would be entertaining. I realise it wouldn't quite fit into the timeline of the series, but I'd find it quite amusing.

Yes, I thought that at the time too.

It would be good if the only way he could communicate would be through a flashing red light!
maian
So many of his films could be improved by just having him beep.

Say it! Say 'show me the money'!

Beep.

What?

Beep.

Are you swearing at me.

Beep beep.

Fuck you too. [Hangs up]

And we are all spared several hours of sheer pap.
Raven
Far and Away would be vastly improved!
maian
Especially if you also replaced Enya's songs with an assortment of bleeps.

From Top Gun

Charlie: So lieutenant, where exactly were you?
Maverick: Beep
Goose: Thank you.
Maverick: Beep
Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Beep
Iceman: Bullshit.
Goose: No he was man, it was a really great move. He was inverted.
Charlie: You were in a 4g inverted dive with a MiG28?
Maverick: Beep
Charlie: At what range?
Maverick: Beep Beep
Goose: It was actually about 1 and a half I think. It was 1 and a half, I've got a great Polaroid of it, and he's right there, must be 1 and a half.
Maverick: Beep
Goose: Thanks.
Charlie: Eh lieutenant, what were you doing there?
Goose: Communicating.
Maverick: Beep Beep
Goose: You know, the finger
Charlie: Yes, I know the finger, Goose.
Goose: I-I'm sorry, I hate it when it does that, I'm sorry. Excuse me.

Nice use of what I assume are Hollywood buzz words there!
Omniscia
They do speak a strange language out there. Must be the heatstroke.
Raven
It's the line:

Abrams is directing and producing the tentpole through his Paramount-based Bad Robot shingle.

That left me scratching my head.

I wonder if the chap has a random buzz-word generator?

I'm not sure I'll be able to watch the new film with Zachary Quinto as Spock. I'll just be sitting there and wondering when he's going to chop the top of Kirk's head off.

I think he's going to make a very good Spock.

I also think he would have made a good Clark Kent.

No, I can't see a relationship between those two either . . .

Spock getting some head from Kirk?

Aren't statements like that what started off the whole world of slash fiction?
Raven
Eric Bana Cast as Villian.

EDIT:

And a bit more from SFX - contains mild spoilers!
Zoe
To back up the SFX rumour, Perez Hilton also says this guy is on talks to play Kirk.
Raven
I wonder how good he will be at bringing his elbows together and then doubling up in pain?

Simon Pegg is Scotty.

The first two words which spring to mind are, and I quote, "Holy shit!"

I'm not sure it will work -- no one can do what Doohan did for the role -- at least not entirely, but it can't be all bad. May even be nice.

ETA: The first tripping over themselves and stammering reactions on all the scoop sites is cracking... my...ass.. up.
Omniscia
Either way, it's bound to be better than the last two Trek films.
