Zoe
My brother has just named his band The Good Doctor, which I think's a brilliant name (even if they did reject my Raleigh St Claire suggestion).

For anyone who doesn't get the reference, it's not a Doctor Who thing...

They're very good, a bit like Graham Coxon.
maian
A Neil Simon reference?
Zoe
A Mark Kermode reference.
maian
It's all things to all people.
Sostie
The Mark Kermode Reference. That's a good band name.
maian
Bit proggy, don't you think?

Prog is back. Look at Muse. All that's missing are capes.
maian
Bellamy wore a cloak at Glastonbury 2003, that's close enough, surely?

Close to the Prog threshold....a few feet over the Wanker threshold.

Have you heard their third album? They leapt over the Wanker threshold long before Bellamy started dressing like a Dungeons and Dragons character.

You mean the "lost" Depeche Mode album. Which was backed by the "rejected" Depeche Mode stage show. Still, better than their "wannabe" Suede period.

Isn't that their fourth album? Their third album is the ''lost'' guy fretwanking in a guitar shop album.

My mistake. The third album was the "Queen minus the humour" album.
Zoe
Can I gather Ed, because your mind didn't leap immediately to it, that you don't listen to the 5 Live Kermode podcast? You should, he's brilliant.
maian
I do occasionally catch his appearances on the radio but I've not listened to the podcasts. I shall remedy this.

It's a weekly treat Edwin, it really is.

There's also a full archive on the 5 Live site.

He's wrong about 'Transformers' though...
Drifter
I am NOT getting into the Muse hating club, I like them, I like their music, I like their live sets and thats it and if Bellamy wants to wear a cloak then good for him. However if he steps into Christmas single territory then he is on his own.

I don't like them, I don't hate them, I just plain don't get them! I cannot see what there is for people to get so excited about them for. They leave me cold. It's all very meh. First they wanted to be Radiohead, now the want to be in the 70s; I fully expect some kind of Wakeman-esque synth odyssey for their next album.
maian
I don't hate Muse.

Actually that's not strictly true, I love them and hate them equally. I love them for being silly and completely stupid but sort of hate them for the same reason. It's complex.

All I know for certain is that I don't think they are anything special but they do have some decent songs and put on a good show.
Sostie
I, hate them not as well. In fact I quite enjoy their records. It's just that ever since I first saw them in their humble beginnings they have not had an ounce of originality about them. But they do seem to be pressing the right buttons.
maian
They just make it so easy for us to make fun of them.
Nonus Aequilibrium
I absolutely hate the word "muse" for some reason, and so I've declared them to have the worst band name ever. The band themselves are just meh.
logger
Wanker Threshold. More of a front man's name than a band.

I only own one album of theirs, and I love it, and I would welcome a Wakeman-esque synth odyssey with open arms, and if I had gas money and a car that would make it that far, I'd drive up to Quebec next week and catch Wakeman's solo concert. tongue.gif
DOD-MDK

Liquid Lawnmower

Some high school bands a friend of mine was in.
Hobbes
i've been listening to a lot of lightspeed champion, which is devonte hynes' new project since the test icicles split. they're a really good band, have a bitching name and do a cover of fleewood mac's 'gypsy'. what's not to like?
curtinparloe
There are band names on my Guitar Hero memory card:

Zoidberg! (which Mel and I came up with)
Melted Fist (which is mine)
Moody Negro (which is Adam's)

At school I was in these bands:
The Khaki Penguins
Inspara
The Phantoms of Death (which became)
The Phantoms (which became)
Tyrant's Epitaph (which became)
The Tyrants (after I had left)

Ah, glory days.

Imhotep is a good name for a band. Hopefully it will be like the Egyptian era Earth Wind and Fire look as worn by Don Cheadle in Boogie Nights. I live in hope.

If only. But I have a feeling it would be adopted by some generic metal death/dark/goth metal band.

Yeah - probably. They would kill the funk. Apparently there is a french rapper called this, which is acceptable.

My idea is better though. Thutmose and Amenhotep are also choices if, Sostie, we were to find this band and make it happen.

Thutmose and the Sarcophogus

Although Sarcophogus is certainly a good one for the death metal fans.

Or a ship. They have double barrelled names like that.

What about a death metal band called Odin's Raven.

*makes Daisy Chainsaw style cranking geetar noises*
Sostie
Well there is a Imhotep

There is an Odin's Court & an Odin's Forest

NORDIC MIST USA ( Black Metal )
NORDIC MIST Skövde, SWEDEN ( Metal )
NORDIC NECROPOLIS Tornio, FINLAND ( Death Metal )
NORDIC NETHEREN USA ( Black Metal )

Isn't it. Nordic Mist sounds like a lovely cruiseship to me.

Looks like archaeology and rock (haha) go hand in hand. I thought Tumulus sounded a bit dark and edgy but looks like it's been done more than once.

Thor is the hardest name known to man but that is taking things to far. What not have 'Thor's Nail' or 'Thor's Workbench' too.

Zeus, Bolton.

Funniest thing I've heard all day. I want Thor Argentina to be an actual person.

Anglo-Saxon literature fans would be perhaps interested in this lot:

Ah, but it could be the Greekness that puts them off. All that oiled-up wrestling 'n' stuff.

I had a look and there are 55 with the word love, but none with the words jazz or fornicators.

I may start a band called THE JAZZ FORNICATORS.

Easy with the inaccurate stereotypes. You do know I am half Greek don't you? biggrin.gif

It's the Turks that do the oiled up stuff.
curtinparloe
My point was that when it comes to scathing and inaccurate generalisations, rockers do it the most.
