Whilst the forth series of Family Guy has been raking in the viewers in the US it has been announced that the BBC have the rights to screen the show and will be doing so later this year (oddly though, starting with season 3).

The Beeb also have the rights to Seth MacFarlane's new show, American Dad, which has been drawing mixed reviews.

I've seen the first episode of season 4, I was 'given' it on CD. So glad there's new family guy at last! North by North Quahog. Thumbs up from me biggrin.gif but no spoilers.

Iiiinteresting. I'd have thought Channel 4 would have gone for the rights for this - didn't they show it before? I'm glad the BBC have got something fantastic to replace the Simpsons, though.
Ingram
Ive seen the first three episodes of American Dad and the first two of series 4 Family Guy, all thoroughly amusing.

I'm surprised that Sky didn't try to keep it in-house, so to speak.

They treated it pretty poorly if I remember correctly: It was on at Simpsons time til they realised it wasn't exactly family fodder. last time I caught it, it was on at 2am.

Cool! Never seen Family Guy before so Im looking forward to this! biggrin.gif

I'm terrified that they'll use it to replace the Simpsons slot though. It'll have to be edited loads and end up being pants.

I've been way anxious about American Dad - just worry it'll be too similar and won't have the same originality. You've appeased me....marginally.

Im glad Family Guy is moving to the BBC, i hope the episodes arent going to be cut to shit like when they where shown on channel 4. you can't show Family Guy at six o'clock, thats like having Porn on CBBies.

Im looking forward to see American Dad, Ive heard good and bad things about it and i wanna make my own mind up.
Sean of the Dead
Yes, and now to celebrate by watching series two!

It's good, it's not great. It wouldnt have got the attention without Family Guy though. Very similar in many respects though.

Please someone don't let them cut it!! Even so, good news.

It looks a little too similar- i hope they don't just reuse the jokes from family guy

I'm not a fan off the Family guy. Its like the Simpsons only not particulary funny.
Sir_Robin_the_brave
I really got into Family Guy a few years ago and it'll be nice to re-visit it from the beginning as I missed a fair few episodes - love Brian the Dog and of course Stewie.

Channel 4 is the station that aired Spaced, correct? How can they get away with a show saying "fuck", smoking weed, etch...but not air a show that actually gets away with being shown on American television? Or am I missing something here?

The point isn't that it is adult in nature, the point is that they might show it at 6pm when the Simpsons used to be on, thereby drawing some kind of parallel between them that doesn't really exist. They are hugely different shows and Family Guy shouldn't be shown that early, as they will most likely have to edit it and therefore cock it up! smile.gif

Exactly. The most recent episode I watched had the word "bastard" in it 3 times in as many minutes. We may not be offended, but Channel 4 wouldn't put that on at 6 o'clock.

Nope. It said 'in production' on imdb for a while and now it says 'completed', whatever that means. I think I heard at one point that they were going to do it more as a two parter that could be shown as a film. That might be totally wrong though. mellow.gif
Metallicock
IMO Family Guy Season 3 onwards is nowhere near season 1+2 in terms of quality. But havent seen series 4 so mabe they have improved. Still a top notch show though.
Doktor Mandrake
I'm extremely glad they've made a fourth series. It just bugs me that we'll have to wait ages to see it.

Unless anyone knows where to download it?

I have to agree, in that Family Guy is a weak version of the more recent 'surreal' Simpson series. Did anyone read the US TV column at the back of the Guardian Guide on Saturday? I had to agree with that.

I enjoyed the first series of Family Guy, but its just becoming less funny. There are too many lengthy asides about US TV which make no sense (just as I'd expect gags in British shows about British TV would be incomprehenisble), its characters are unfunny imitations of original creations, and Stewie's just irritating. Based on the rest of the topic, I know I'm in the vast minority, but hey, I don't care.
Ingram
I would agree with you somewhat about the US TV references mainly because at the VERY start of season four there is one. But I understood it, I cant see who wouldnt, so it was just hilarious. Plus there has been a lot of the kid with the upside down face so far... and he's just brilliant tongue.gif
shazam
got the box set abosolutley brilliant, cant wait for season 4 to begin.

The latest episode is hilarious, without giving too much away there is an unbelievably amusing section where Peter just randomly fights a giant rooster for a good 5 minutes, oh and at the end there is a little Star Wars parody.

Can't Touch Me!
What in god's name is he doing!?
I believe thats the worm
Stop! Peter time!

Simpsons is shockingly shite in my opinion, kill it off (cut the umbilical cord!), it's just Matt Groening stirring the same old shit, warming it up and serving it over and over again for ten years!
I resent people saying it's like the simpsons as it is in no way like the annoying yellow characters of springfeild, it actually deserves to be less of a minority, I've recently let my friends borrow my Family Guy DVDs and everyone who hasnt seen it says its not as good as simpsons, every one who HAS seen it thinks its much better!

Isn't that the beginning of Da Bomb? Or is this a new theme for Peter - poultry brawls...?

Nope, in a brand new episode it happens as well. Basically they are all standing around talking and out of nowhere a Rooster tackles Peter. They then fight for a long time, and when it's over Peter walks back to the conversation. Thoroughly amusing, I was pissing myself tongue.gif

It managed to keep you interested for five minutes? huh.gif I didn't like the poultry fight in Da Boom-it just went on far too long, and while I'm all for plot diversion and randomness, it just felt unneccessary for it to be dragged on.

Looking forward to more song parodies though-I thought nothing could top 'Can't touch me', but then along came 'give up the toad'. biggrin.gif

Really? The fact that it was so long and drawn out was part of what made it so funny for me - because it was so unnecessary. I'm actually giggling about it as type now. So Ingram, is it meant to be the same chicken, do you think? Cos at the end of the Da Boom sequence he opens his eye as Peter walks off into the sunset - is this cold-served rooster-revenge?

I think Family Guy is great, but it couldn't possibly exist without the Simpsons, and there are parellels between them, most notably in plotlines-both have had the world end because of atomic wars and Y2K, God has featured prominently in both, as has Hitler, although the Devil has yet to appear in Family Guy, they both have featured one conscience killing the other (I am evil Homer, I am evil Homer versus 'Now got over to Joes! Move' 'Okay buddy, everything's cool) and any number of other parallels between the two.

Admittedly the Simpsons is no longer what it was (Season 4 is the most consistently brilliant thing ever) but it can still raise a chuckle or two. Family Guy is awesome, but let's not be too quick to judge since it hasn't lasted for 16 years, yet. Let's hope that MacFarlane can keep up the brilliance for a long time (quite probably since he seems to have shoved all the shit jokes over to American Dad)

Some really excellent moments in the most recent family guy (season four):

[A conversation between the two worms in Brian's stomach]
Worm One: You know what's interesting? I've only been alive for six weeks, I know nothing of the world beyond this dogs stomach ... and I still find Six Feet Under pretentious.

Peter: So, Mr Pewtershmidt, the big race is tomorrow. I bet you're going to need some big strapping men to help you wish you boat.
Mr Pewtershmidt: Are you calling me gay?
Peter: No, I just thought you might want some extra seaman on your poop deck.

Race Announcer: Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the 20th annual Newport regatta. Newport would like to extend a special welcome to all those here today who have children stationed overseas in Iraq.

*laughs*

Hahaha, just kidding.
Blind I/O
I've avoided quoting them at the risk of spoiling the gags for those law-abiing types who haven't yet seen season four, but it's been friggin awesome, and keeps getting better...

I saw a few episodes when I was on holiday in America, oh lord, so very funny! My fears about the series not living up to my expectations (built ever so high by the drama surrounding the cancellation and rebirth) were completely unfounded and I'm very glad. Bring on Autumn (or a pirate DVD from one of my mates)
